Jax Oleum Water Based 2K Matt Sealer

The Jax Oleum 2K Matt Sealer is a two-component, water-based matt sealer designed to deliver superior protection on wood surfaces that take high traffic use. It can be applied over raw wood, over Jax Oleum Single Coat Oil-based Wood Stain, or over any other compatible prepared surface – forming a hardwearing, water-resistant barrier that holds up under heavy traffic, moisture exposure, and repeated cleaning without altering the natural look of the wood.

What makes it different

Unlike a standard single-component varnish, the 2K system combines a base and hardener at a ratio of 9 parts base to 1 part hardener – available in 500ml, 1L, and 5L sizes. When mixed, the two components react to create a cross-linked finish that is far more durable and water-resistant than conventional water-based sealers. The result is a clear, matt finish that holds up under heavy traffic, moisture exposure, and repeated cleaning.

When to use it

The 2K Matt Sealer is the right choice for any oiled surface that will face demanding conditions:

• High-traffic engineered wood flooring in homes and commercial spaces
• Bar counters and restaurant table tops
• Kitchen surfaces and bathroom vanities
• Commercial door installations
• Any interior surface where maximum water resistance and durability is required

For everyday interior surfaces with moderate use, the Jax Q8 Water-Based Sealer is a simpler alternative. When in doubt, the 2K is the recommendation.

How to apply

Mix 9 parts base to 1 part hardener thoroughly before use. Apply using a roller or low-pressure spray gun over a clean, dry, prepared surface – raw wood, oiled wood, or any compatible finish. Apply two coats as standard, allowing approximately 2 hours between each coat. Before the second coat, lightly buff with a scotch pad to remove any raised grain or dust nibs. Then wipe with a clean cloth.  For extremely high-use surfaces a third coat is optional for additional protection. Rinse rollers immediately after use. Once mixed, the product has a limited pot life – use within 8 – 10 hours as indicated on the bottle and do not store mixed product.
